A Personal Relationship With Our Planet

Tell us a little bit about your personal relationship to Earth Day, and what it means for you as an Expert Aromatherapist.

Gabriel: The origins of Earth Day happen to be not that far from where I live here in California: in San Francisco. That’s where it all started, in 1969, with peace activist John McConnell. And having a long interest in environmental concerns, it’s a day that I’ve observed in some way, even if it’s just a post on Facebook!

Tell us a little bit about how aromatherapy and essential oils can deepen our relationship with the earth.

Gabriel: The first and foremost way that Essential Oils reconnect us to the Earth is through their ability to reunite us with our sensory nature, and of course our sense of smell especially—making us more able to appreciate Nature. The freshness and beauty of their aroma diffused in the home and office bring the qualities and scents of our fragrant Earth into the immediate environment, and instill within us our own memories of *being in* Nature.

Curating Sustainability

You personally developed and curated the AromaTru line of essential oils and collections, with a commitment to sustainable and responsible sourcing. Can you share a little about what that means, and why it is so important to only use sustainably-sourced organic or wildcrafted oils for the wellbeing of both the earth and ourselves.

Gabriel: For any company, the primary step to ensure sustainability is to avoid those products derived from species classified as at-risk on some level by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Climate change has driven a loss of habitat for species of plants that we have relied on for centuries. Many medicinal and aromatic plants in particular are dwindling in numbers due to their popularity and method of harvesting. What sustainable practices are associated with the production of organic and wildcrafted essential oils?
